Nah, Sprites didn’t have an openable trunk, I see a shutline.

Thought of that, but the Hotshots went without doors for years and then had suicide doors - they also had less clean lines.

I was thinking MG MGA but I think the rear deck is too long.

The closest thing I’ve found so far is the Healey 100, but it’s not right either.

Some sort of Austin-Healey?

It’s too small and the shape is wrong for an Austen 6 Sportsmobile or a 100/4, but thats the closest I got so far... I’m sticking with British and ‘50s on this but I’m running out of guesses...

The closest I’ve got so far are some 356 variants and certain years of the Nash Healey. The biggest trouble is that the trunk in the Nash Healey is not right and the car in the picture appears to have a longer convertible top (a 2+2?) than virtually every roadster I’ve been able to come up with.

I think this might be Austin A40 Sports. If you look closely the car in the picture has similar two trim pieces and everything else seems to be close match too.

I can’t ID any of the cars positively as later than ‘51/’52 or so. I’ve been through Peugeot, Siata, Fiat, Alfa, Autobianchi... nothing so far. And yet, I’d almost swear I’d seen it before. The lines oddly enough resemble a Lincoln convertible of ‘49 etc., just smaller. One indicator it may not be Euro - most Euro roadsters of those years appear to have bigger number plate cutouts than this has or even possibly could have.

Haha, I randomly found this while GIS’ing early 50’s fiberglass cars. My first instinct was wrong this time as I at first thought this might have been something German.

Methinks that’s the answer...thanks! And looking at the photo again I think I see the Flying A hood ornament as well.

Most likely correct. The extended 2+2 convertible top is one of the most important features here. Exactly brackets the likely year of the photo (‘52), does not have a tall continental Europe license number stand, has inset tails, correct door swing and handles, etc. I was wondering why it looked familiar, and I think it’s because I was looking at others in the Austin A40 series some months ago.

My first instinct was wrong as well. I was looking at all these lil japanese convertibles
